Cortland Common Council Discusses Smoking Restrictions

The City of Cortland Common Council held a meeting Tuesday to discuss multiple items on the agenda.

That included holding a public hearing related to amending city code adding more restrictions to smoking on public property, especially in and around Cortland’s Main Street. The move would prohibit smoking within 25 feet of any entrance or exit of any building located on Main Street that provides access to or from the area, as well as any public sidewalk running alongside it.

During the hearing, a commenting citizen expressed concern about adding more penalties for smokers, especially if they’re cooperating within existing rules.

Common Council members ultimately decided to table a vote on the matter until their November 1st meeting.
