Cortland City Schools Seeking School Board Candidates

The Cortland Enlarged City School District is looking for school board candidates with three seats available. Cortland Schools says petitions are now available for those who are interested in running for a seat on the Board of Education.

The district says the terms of two Cortland Board of Education members along with an unexpired term are up for election this May. The election will take place at the budget vote and board member election on May 20th.

Candidates with the most votes during the election will serve a three-year term beginning on July 1st and ending on June 30th, 2028. The candidate who has the third most votes will serve an unexpired term beginning on May 21st and ending on June 30th, 2027.

Those who are interested in running and to be on the ballot must be qualified to vote in school elections in the district, be a resident within the district one year prior to May 20th, 2025, and file a petition with 100 signatures of qualified school district voters before 5pm on April 30th.

Petitions may be obtained between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm weekdays at the Kaufman Center located at 1 Valley View Drive, Cortland. For additional information, you may contact Board Clerk Alicia Zupancic at 607-758-4100 ext. 2202.
