Cortland City School Bus Slides Off Road on Route 215

This morning (March 28) around 7:10am, a Cortland City School bus slid off the road on Route 215 between Bennie Rd. and Starr Rd. On board the bus was 22 Jr. and Sr. High students on route to school.



Emergency personnel from Cortlandville Fire Department, TLC Ambulance, and the Cortland County Sheriff responded to the scene quickly. Additionally, nearby neighbors and other drivers stopped to provide assistance. Route 215 was briefly shut down between Bennie Road and Starr Road.

Cortland City School’s Superintendent Bob Edwards spoke to X101, and reports there are no major injuries among the driver or students. All have been checked by Paramedics. Edwards went on to say that the school bus’s front passenger side slid 60 yards into the ditch.

Two students were picked up by family members at the scene of the accident. The remaining students were transported to the high school and then evaluated again by the school nurse.

Mowry’s Towing assisted in removing the bus from the ditch. As of 9:30 am, Route 215 is back open. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
