Cortland City Fire Department Conducting ‘Flow’ Tests On Hydrants

Local News

The City of Cortland Fire Department has started testing hydrants throughout the city.

Fire Department Personnel will be out performing “flow” tests on fire hydrants in an effort to assure efficiency, determine any areas of concern and assist in future planning.

“Flow” testing has not been done in a number of years, according to a press release.

With the testing city residents may discover water to be slightly discolored in any area that testing has recently occurred. The Fire Department says this is normal and that you should allow your water to run for a little while to clear up any issues.

The flow testing is scheduled throughout July and August.

The annual inspection and testing performed by fire department is being performed in September and is different than that “Flow” test.

The Fire Department says flow testing and the annual inspection and maintenance are being done to assure that in the time of an emergency the hydrants and system work to the best of their ability and provide residents with the highest level of Fire Protection.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to City Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Friedman at the Headquarters Fire Station at (607) 758-8380.
