On Wednesday, August 9th, the Cortland Breakfast Rotary Club presented a check of $3,000 to Bryn Carr of Room to Grow Cortland.
The Cortland Breakfast Rotary Club was qualified for a grant this year amounting to $2,000 dollars, and another $1,000 was raised by club members for the donation to Room to Grow Cortland Community Garden project.
The project for the Community Garden included cleaning truckloads of trash and drug paraphernalia from a two-acre South Ave. property in the City of Cortland.
So far, the one-acre garden has provided hundreds of pounds of fresh, locally grown produce to food pantries, kitchens, and local residents during this summer. The area also includes educational space where classes on gardening, cooking, and meal preparation take place and cultural and art offerings.
The money donated will go towards the purchase of a rototiller and materials for storage and transportation of the produce grown.
