Cortland Area Man Pledges $1 Million Towards New Guthrie Health Campus in Cortland – Gave $1 Million Towards Cancer Center Years Prior

A familiar name in the Cortland area, Nicholas Renzi, has pledged $1 million dollars to support Guthrie’s new health campus center that is finishing up construction at 4057 West Road (Route 281) in Cortland. Guthrie says the new center is only weeks away from opening its doors for patients.

Renzi’s $1 million dollar donation will be matched with another $1 million in donations by the Cortland Memorial Foundation, a goal that Guthrie says is already close to achieving.

“The driving force for my gift is to help make Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and its affiliated offices be the best they can be, providing complete and easily accessible health care services without the need to travel out of town,” said Renzi. “It is a privilege and personal pleasure that my late wife Agnes and I have been able to support many worthy organizations through the Nicholas and Agnes Renzi Charitable Fund.”

Renzi made a similar pledge during the construction of the Renzi Cancer Center prior to its opening at the Guthrie Cortland Medical Center Campus in the City of Cortland. Guthrie says since the opening of the cancer center, there has been a growth in the number of cancer patients and procedures each year. Guthrie and Mr. Renzi says it shows there was a need for a comprehensive cancer center for the Cortland area.

“Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for Nick Renzi,” said Dr. Edmund Sabanegh, President & CEO, The Guthrie Clinic. “A donation of this magnitude, in our region, stretches extremely far. We are proud to have Mr. Renzi’s name next to ours, so that members of this community will understand what he and his late wife have done to help us meet their health care needs.”

Beginning in December, patients will begin to receive care at the new campus which will be called the Guthrie Cortland Renzi Health Campus. Half of the 32,000 square foot building will hold laboratory and imaging services, and Guthrie’s existing primary care. Guthrie says additional providers will join to help meet the growing needs of the Cortland area. The remaining half of the building will house specialty services, which Guthrie says will bring their multiple care options now under one roof.
