Cortland and Homer Fire Departments Honor Charter Chief

On Saturday, September 24th members from the Cortlandville and Homer Fire Department honored one of their own, charter assistant chief Lynn Buddenhagan.


Members from both departments welcomed home Buddenhagan, who took part in the “Honor Flight ” out of Syracuse Hancock International Airport and welcomed him at the airport along with other veterans.

Lynn Buddenhagan is a distinguished veteran of the fire service. He joined the Homer Fire Department in October of 1973, and in 1974 became a Charter Member of the Frank K. Taylor Hose Company $4.

In 1982, Lynn became a Charter Fire Chief, filling the role of 1st assistant fire chief until 1984, he then served as the second chief of the department in 1985 through 1986.

During his time, the department did not have adequate funding, equipment, or resources and fundraising was round the clock with nonstop work from Lynn and other members of the department to gather the needed equipment, apparatus, and training to the new group of Cortlandville Firefighters.

The Cortlandville Fire District Commissioners and Chiefs of the Cortlandville Fire District recognized, commended and thanked Lynn for his distinguished service for not only his county, but the Homer and Cortlandville Fire Departments as well.
