Senator Chuck Schumer announced yesterday (October 29) that more than 50 Central New York schools were hit with a total of nine cyber attacks so far this year.
Specifically, the Central New York Regional Information Center has been the target, which provides technology services to more than 50 local school districts–including Cortland Enlarged and Homer.
The Information Center was first hit several times in April, and then again in September and October.
The attacks have caused Internet outages in all districts serviced by the Information Center, but have not caused any damage or allowed any information to be released
Sen. Schumer is now asking for the Department of Homeland Security’s help investigating these attacks further.
More information can be found in the OFFICIAL RELEASE FROM SENATOR SCHUMER.
