Cortland American Legion Post 489 Auxiliary to Distribute Poppies Next Friday

Friday, May 23rd is National Poppy Day. The day is observed the Friday before Memorial Day, which is on Monday, May 26th. The day goes back to when the American Legion brought National Poppy Day to the United States and asked Congress to designate the Friday before Memorial Day as the official holiday; Congress authorized the day in 2017.

As part of the day, the Cortland American Legion Post 489 American Legion Auxiliary will be distributing poppies at two locations in the Cortland area on the 23rd. Those two locations will be the P&C Fresh at Riverside Shopping Plaza and Price Chopper on Route 13 in Cortlandville. The Auxiliary will be at both locations from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

The American Legion Auxiliary will distribute poppies with a request that the person receiving the flower make a donation to support the future of veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families with medical and financial needs.
