Cornell University will help educate inmates at Cayuga, Auburn, Elmira, and Five Points Correctional facilities.

Cornell will participate in a $7.3 million state program where New York State colleges provide educational and re-entry services at 17 state prisons over the next five years.

More than 2,500 seats for college-level education and training will be created in the name of reducing recidivism rates.

Proponents point to a study from 2013 that showed program participants are 43% less likely to return to prison.
