Controversial Farm Worker Ruling Scheduled To Start In 2024

Local News on WXHC.com is brought to you by:

The State Farm Laborer Wage Board Friday voted to recommend that the State Labor department decrease the weekly overtime threshold for farm workers to 40 hours per week. It would drop from 60 hours over the course of the next 10 years, beginning Jan. 1, 2024.

Unions and other groups believe this promotes equity and fairness to farm workers. Farmers and food producers believe the move could destroy farm operations during busy harvest seasons.

Up until three years ago, farm workers were required to work up to 80 hours during harvest.
