Common Council Meets Tomorrow Night – To Vote For Purchase of Ladder Truck

The City of Cortland Common Council will meet tomorrow night at 6pm on the third floor of City Hall in Downtown Cortland. Tomorrow night’s meeting is relatively short with 4 items on the agenda, one being the authorization of the purchase of a new ladder fire truck for the Cortland Fire Department.

The City of Cortland Fire Department has been looking at all options for the need to replace a 1995 aerial ladder truck, which is considered well past its useful life. A replacement truck though was estimated to cost well over two million dollars and take almost two years to build before it can be delivered.

However, the fire department has found an aerial ladder truck that meets many of the specifications the department requires. The truck the department found is being built as a “demo unit” and would have a delivery timeline sometime in July of this year. The demo truck is also considerably more affordable, estimated to cost just under $1.8 million dollars. The City of Cortland was recently awarded a million dollar Community Development Block Grant towards the purchase of a new ladder truck. Tomorrow nights meeting will have the Council vote to approve the purchase agreement for the truck.

Other items on tomorrow nights agenda include: setting a public hearing on a proposed local law to establish authority of the Common Council to approve a resolution management plan, amending the ’25 budget, and authorizing an MOU with SUNY Cortland University Police on the coordination of law enforcement efforts.

Tomorrow night’s meeting is also available to stream via Zoom. You can find the Zoom link HERE.
