Common Council Confirms Appointments For Director of Finance, and DPW Superintendent

There were numerous confirmations during the City of Cortland Common Council meeting last night including the appointment of a new City Director of Administration & Finance, and DPW Superintendent.

After an extensive search for a replacement for former Director of Administration & Finance Lisa Henty, who left back in Spring for another position at Syracuse University. Henty only had the position for about a year before resigning.

The Common Council voted unanimously to confirm Cortland Mayor’s Scott Steve’s appointment of Elizabeth L. Greenwood as Director of Administration & Finance. Greenwood has extensive government and leadership experience and has worked in similar sized municipalities and served as four-term mayor and was a US Naval Officer. She currently serves as Comptroller for the Town of Niskayuna, which has a population of around 23,000. She previously served as Director of Finance for the Town of Rotterdam, a city of about 30,000 people. Both towns are in Schenectady County.

Greenwood will begin her position with the City of Cortland on Monday, August 12th.

The Common Council also voted unanimously to confirm another appointment of the Superintendent of the City of Cortland DPW after the departure of Nic Dovi last month. The Common Council approved the appointment of Michael J. Wiese (Wise) as the next Superintendent.

Weise is currently the Director of Public Works for the Village of Cayuga Heights since 2016. He lives in Cortlandville and has worked on projects within the city, including the $50 million dollar SUNY Cortland Student Life Center back in 2014 as an assistant project manager with FAHS Construction Group.

“I am thrilled to welcome Michael Wiese as our new Superintendent,” said Mayor Steve. “Mike’s experience in managing large construction projects will be instrumental as we work to complete big projects and continue to invest in our city’s infrastructure.”

He will also begin his new position on Monday, August 12th.
