During the City of Cortland Common Council meeting last night, the council voted to authorize a submission of a Climate Smart Grant for Homer Ave. infrastructure updates.
The program comes from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Climate Smart Program. A 50% match is required from the City of Cortland for the grant, which will come from the EPA Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act loan.
The City of Cortland will submit a grant application in the amount of $2 million dollars with a match of $2 million via the loan. The total project cost will be $4 million dollars.
Additionally, the City of Cortland will look further into grant applications for Homer Ave. including filing applications for the Green Innovation Grant Program, and the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. Both required matches will also come from the EPA Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act loan.
If all applications go through, the design phase will begin next year with construction beginning in 2025. Work will be done from Groton Ave. to the City line (Just past the Homer Ave. Plaza).
