Common Council Authorizes RestoreNY Grant Application For Former Roundhouse Mill Property – Property Owner Will Pay Required Matching Funds
The City of Cortland Common Council has authorized Mayor Scott Steve to apply for RestoreNY funding through the NYS Empire State Development Corp. for the former Roundhouse Mill property on Elm Street in the heart of Cortland. If awarded the funding, the funds would be used for demolition of the long vacant building. Mayor Steve noted this application is at no cost to the city as the property owner would be responsible for any matching funds required.
A RestoreNY grant can provide matching grant funding for demolition, reconstruction, and renovations of dilapidated buildings. Cortland’s application will apply for funding up to one million dollars.
Currently, there are no set plans on what would replace the former Roundhouse Mill building, but the mayor says the property owner is working on plans for possible housing.
