Combine Rollover Causes Power Outage in Homer – Operator Uninjured

Just after 5pm on Friday, October 17th, Homer Fire, TLC Ambulance, and the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to East River Road near the intersection of Shippey Road for a report of a combine rollover with entrapment. The rollover caused the combine to strike a power line, knocking out power in the area of the crash. In a release, Homer Fire says when their units were arriving, the operator was out of the combine and walking around.

Officers with the Sheriff’s Office arriving on scene found the combine on its side in the yard of a residence at the corner of Shippey and East River Road. The Sheriff’s Office says an investigation determined the operator of the combine had experienced a mechanical issue, leading to the operator losing control of the vehicle.

The operator attempted to make the corner of Shippey and East River Road when he left the roadway, struck the powerpole and then rolled over. The Sheriff’s Office says the operator was evaluated on scene by TLC, but was injured from the crash.

National Grid was called to the scene to provide assistance for the downed power line. NYS DEC Spill Response also responded as well as Morey’s Towing and CNY Towing.
