Cold Weather Advisory Issued – Temps as Low as -20

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for a portion of Central New York and the Southern Tier Regions, including Cortland & Tompkins Counties. The NWS says high winds are expected to continue with gusts up to 45mph. With the high winds, sub-zero wind chills are likely with temperatures possibly reaching 20 below.

The Cold Weather Advisory will go into effect beginning at 10pm Monday night and will continue through 10am Tuesday morning. The NWS warns isolated power outages are possible and travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

With sub-zero wind chill temperatures possibly dropping to minus twenty, frostbite can occur on exposed skin in 30 minutes.

Motorists should also be alert for any downed tree limbs.
