The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a cold weather advisory from 7 p.m. Thursday through 9 a.m. Friday, January 30.
Forecasters say dangerously cold wind chills could reach as low as minus 23 degrees, particularly in higher elevations. Overnight temperatures are expected to remain well below zero, even without the wind chill.
The NWS warns that frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors and wear proper cold-weather gear, including hats and gloves.
