CNY Community Foundation Names Downes as Program Manager For Cortland County Grantmaking

The Central New York Community Foundation has named Kate Downes as program manager to support the organization’s grantmaking initiatives in Cortland County. The announcement follows a historic $12 million dollar donation by Nick and Agnes Renzi’s estate for Cortland County non-profits in November.

With the donation, the CNY Community Foundation will expand their Community Grants program into the county for the first time. The gift by the Renzi’s has established two endowed funds, which ensures long-term charitable support for county residents, the organization says.

Downe’s role will be to expand the capacity for grantmaking in Cortland County and help non-profits navigate the grant process. This will include providing support in guiding the grant distribution process and execution of programs through the review of proposals, interacting with prospective applicants and electronic record keeping.

“I am excited to play a meaningful role in supporting community groups working within the Community Foundation’s priority areas by providing funding to address key community needs, particularly as responsive grantmaking expands into Cortland County,” Downes said.

According to the foundation, Downe holds a masters degree in sustainable agriculture and rural development from University College Dublin and is a resident of Homer. She volunteers with the Homer Regional Farmers’ Market and Oswegatchie Education Center in the Adirondacks.
