The National Click it or Ticket campaign kicked off this past Monday and officers throughout the state are heightening their efforts to make sure everyone wears their seatbelt.
The effort is to increase seatbelt and child safety seat use to reduce injuries and fatalities in vehicle accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports there are over 11,000 unbuckled passenger vehicle fatalities in the country in 2021, with 57% killed at night.
In New York State, it is law that everyone in the vehicle is buckled up, no matter age or whether they’re in the front or rear seats of the vehicle. The campaign runs through June 5th.
