Click-it or Get a Ticket – Campaign Begins to Crackdown Those Not Wearing a Seatbelt

Memorial Day weekend is this weekend and is usually considered the unofficial start to the summer travel season. With this, the Homer Police Department is reminding everyone to buckle up when traveling. In New York State, everyone is required to wear their seatbelt, including if you’re in a rear seat or a vehicle.

Beginning yesterday and continuing through June 2nd, area law enforcement throughout the state will be participating in the Click It or Ticket Seat Belt Enforcement campaign, or known at Buckle Up New York.

The Homer Police Department is also providing helpful safety information for children to ensure they are properly secured in the vehicle. Children under the age of 2 must ride in a rear-facing child safety seat and all children under 4 must ride in a child safety seat. Any child ages 8 years or younger must be in a child restraint system, a vehicle seatbelt is not a child restraint system.

For children riding in booster seats, the seat must be secured with a combination lap/shoulder seat belt. HPD says never secure a child in a booster seat with only a lap belt.
