A complaint came into the City of Cortland Police Department of a cleaner and helper who was working at a home on East Ave. was stealing money.
The complaint named Junaidah Sweeney of Cortland as the suspect. An investigation conducted by officers found that the victim was missing multiple checks from her checkbook, with the stolen checks then being forged and then cashed by Sweeney. The thefts took place between January and March of this year.
The investigation found that over $4,000 was stolen from the victim.
Officers arrested Sweeney and charged her with Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 2nd, and Grand Larceny in the 3rd, both Felonies. Sweeney was arraigned and later released. Sweeney is due to reappear in Cortland City Court next month.
