Clean-up continues from the train derailment in Marathon Thursday.
A crane and rigging crew from Collins, New York was brought to the scene of the crash in Marathon Thursday afternoon.
According to NYS&W spokeswoman Melanie Boyer, of the 8 cars that derailed Thursday morning 7 have been re-railed and will be moved within the next few days. The empty tank car that overturned will be dismantled at a later date.
The crash occurred around 7:15 Thursday morning at the intersection of the tracks and Route 221 in Marathon. There were no injuries.
It’s unknown what caused the derailment, but it may have started several miles earlier in Broom County.
The train was headed to Syracuse at the time. One of the cars that tipped was hauling construction debris.
Boyer says NYS&W does not transport crude oil on the line.
