City of Cortland police officers Jesse Abbott and Dpty. Chief Paul Sandy discussed this Friday’s Annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony, which is set to begin at 8:30 am.

Both were responsible for bringing the city its first memorial in 2018 inside Courthouse Park, featuring steel from Ground Zero.

This year’s ceremony will remember the lives of Port Authority Officer Paul Jurgens, SUNY Cortland Grad Karen Navarro and SUNY Cortland student and FDNY firefighter Michael Boyle.

Retired Air Force Colonel Kim Walsh will be the keynote speaker, who was working in the Pentagon at the time American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building.

Members of Mr. Boyle’s family will be also present.

If you plan on attending, please respect the social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. It will also be livestreamed.

Church Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic. More information is available on the Facebook event page.
