The City of Cortland has released the results from their residential trash survey, that went out to residents in the City of Cortland with over 390 taking part in the survey.
The survey asked residents what their monthly budget for trash removal is with the range of $10-$20 being the majority (214 responses) followed by $21-$35 as the second most (130 responses).
When asked of how many people in each household the survey showed that a majority of the population lives with 5 or less per household.
The blue bag program the city offers still remains the most popular when asked how residents currently dispose of their trash (293 responses). This was followed by private haulers (76 responses).
When asked if residents were satisfied with the blue bag program 146 responded as “very unsatisfied” then proceeded by 65 responses of “somewhat unsatisfied”. Overall, only 36 residents responded that the blue bag program was “very satisfied.”
However, residents did reply that the current company that is provided by the city for trash pick-up is overall good. 97 said they were “very satisfied” with the company, and 75 at “somewhat satisfied”. 47 said they were very unsatisfied.
The City of Cortland also received an unsatisfactory response when asked about the recycling pick-up service. Only 39 residents stated that they were “very satisfied”.
When asked about eliminating the blue bags and then being provided with a trash bin/tote instead would be an improvement 208 said yes with 71 at not sure, and 54 with no.
Overall, the majority of the residents agreed to one thing, they would like to see change in the blue bag trash pick-up systems in the city.
