The City of Cortland Police Department’s Bike Auction has been deemed a success.
At Tuesday night’s Common Council meeting it was announced that 30 bicycles were auctioned off to the community and $805 was raised at the June 25th bicycle auction.
The police department holds this auction annually to get rid of bicycles they’ve come into possession with. These bicycles remain unclaimed and the department has limited storage for them.
Proceeds from the auction go to worthy causes. This year funds are getting divided equally
between the Water Works Deer Fund, for purchase of winter hay, and the Cortland Youth
Bureau, for the purchase of ice cream, which will be handed out at city parks over the summer. This is part of a joint Cortland City Police Department and Cortland City Youth Bureau Community Engagement effort.
The first date with police community engagement is set for July 15th in Suggett Park.
