City of Cortland Police Continue MOU With University Police at SUNY Cortland

During Tuesday evenings Common Council meeting, the Council voted to renew a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Cortland Police Department and University Police at SUNY Cortland. City of Cortland Police Chief Guerrera says this MOU between the city and University Police remains the same as it was with past police chiefs Sandy and Catalano, but says this new one will have his signature on it due to him now being Chief of Police.

The Common Council voted to authorize Mayor Steve and Police Chief Guerrera to execute a MOU with University Police relating to law enforcement coordination efforts to remain in effect. The MOU is essentially an agreement if the City of Cortland Police Department needs assistance that University Police can be called in if the property is known to be associated with students attending SUNY Cortland. The agreement also goes for Cortland Police to be dispatched on campus if needed and/or interview someone regarding a case. Both agencies have the option to terminate the MOU with at least 30 days notice.
