City of Cortland plans virtual tree lighting ceremony

Local News

Tomorrow night (December 4) is the city of Cortland’s annual tree lighting ceremony.

The event will be virtual this year, beginning at 7 pm.

Members of the community can also watch it from their vehicle on a large inflatable screen that will be setup in the large parking lot at 188 Homer Avenue. That will open at 6 pm.

Just before the tree lighting, a special holiday video will play on the screen.

Registration for free virtual admission can be done here.

Santa Claus will also visit city neighborhoods at a social distance on December 13.

Father Christmas will get a special escort from the City Fire Department.

He also plans to make an appearance in Homer this weekend. Santa will be at the First United Methodist Church on Cayuga Street — next to the village green — between 8-11 am on Saturday (December 5).

Cookies, candy and gifts will be available at that event, with masks required at all times.
