City of Cortland Named Tree City Once Again – 17th Year Recognized

The Arbor Day Foundation has recognized the City of Cortland as a Tree City USA. This is the 17th year the city has been recognized. Cortland Mayor Scott Steve made the announcement of the recognition during Tuesday’s Common Council meeting.

For municipalities to be recognized as a Tree City, there are four standards that must be met, the Arbor Day Foundation says. Those are: Maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day.

Tuesday’s Common Council also read a proclamation recognizing April 26th as Arbor Day within the City of Cortland.
