During the City of Cortland Common Council meeting this past Tuesday, both the City of Cortland Fire Department Fire Chief, Wayne Friedman and Cortland Mayor Scott Steve recognized Vincent Minnella for his years of service to the fire department.

Vincent Minnella passed away in his home in Cortland at the age of 82 on December 17th. Minnella was part of the Cortland Fire Department for over 40 years, beginning his career as a volunteer firefighter in the Hitchcock Hose Co. #6 back in 1970. He began to specialize in fire investigations in 1977 and held the role of Lieutenant in the Fire Investigation Division from 1982-1985 and again from 2009-2015.

Additionally, Minnella was a Commissioner to the Cortland City Board of Fire Commissioners from 2004-2011.

City of Cortland Mayor Scott Steve read a proclamation by the City of Cortland in honor of Vincent Minnella. In the proclamation read by Steve, it recognized his 53 years of service to both the City of Cortland and Fire Department, his knowledge and administrative skills which assisted in the organization and management of the volunteer contingent, and the numerous boards and commissions he served on.

“I, Scott Steve, Mayor of the City of Cortland, on behalf of the Common Council and citizens of Cortland, thank Vincent Minnella for his many years of service to the City of Cortland and Cortland Fire Department.” Part of the proclamation read.
