A ceremony was held in Cortland on Friday morning to honor the life of noted local resident Dan McNeil Jr the day before his 100th birthday.
The gathering took place outside of City Hall and was held in recognition of McNeil’s many contributions to the Cortland community. Cortland Mayor Scott Steve took a moment to give his thoughts on and reflect on McNeil’s impact on the area.
“The mentoring he has done as a swim coach, or as a leader in our community to make our buildings and facilities look so much nicer. Just so much class and it’s awesome to be able to honor somebody while they’re alive and be able to appreciate what they’ve (Dan) done for us.” Scott Steve said to X101.
The event also highlighted the McNeil-backed Rose and Dan McNeil Foundations, which support philanthropic and musical causes in the community.
X101 also spoke with McNeil himself.
