Around 2pm on Sunday, the City of Cortland Fire Department responded to 178 Homer Ave. (Foxy’s) for a reported fire in the basement and a smoke condition inside the building.
Firefighters were able to respond to the scene in three minutes, with nothing showing from the exterior of the building. Further investigations by firefighters found a moderate smoke condition and fire in a walk-in cooler with the fire extending into the ceiling.
Water extinguishers were first used by firefighters with a 2-inch hand line stretched to the basement entrance to knock out the remaining fire. Firefighters had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes.
The building eventually had power restored and the all clear given around 3:30pm. The City of Cortland Fire Investigation Division found the cause of the fire to be electrical and the fire was then ruled accidental.
There were no injuries reported. Assisting the City of Cortland Fire Department was the Cortland County Sheriff, and the County Department of Emergency Response and Communications.
