The City of Cortland has filed a government efficiency plan with the state, that if approved will net a property tax rebate for the city, all towns, all villages, and residents in two fire districts.
The plan is required under Governor Cuomo’s property tax rebate program. In order to see a rebate stakeholders had to show a savings to taxpayers of more than a half million dollars. That threshold has been met and exceeded, the plan shows a savings of more than $2 million dollars over 3 years.
With the submission of the plan, the first of the two requirements to trigger the property tax rebate to STAR eligible taxpayers has been met. If the local governments and fire districts enact 2016 budgets that are under the property tax cap taxpayers will receive a rebate.
