In a letter to members of the Cortland Common Council, Cortland Mayor Scott Steve announced that the City of Cortland Department of Public Works Superintendent, Nic Dovi, had submitted his notice of retirement with an effective date of June 21st, 2024.

“2024. While I respect his choice to retire, it was not expected and is received with a measure of regret. I received his letter yesterday, and joined him this morning when he informed his department staff.”

Mayor Steve said in the letter.

Dovi had worked with the City of Cortland Department of Public Works for 22 years and helped the city through numerous transformation projects in his tenure.

With his departure, the city will now look for a replacement Superintendent for the department. The City of Cortland is already in search for a Deputy Superintendent after the termination of Deputy Superintendent Bill Lund back in April.

“Nic’s retirement adds to the key positions the City needs to fill. The City is currently engaged with a professional recruitment consultant to find candidates for Director of Administration and Finance. While the Deputy Superintendent vacancy has been posted since April 21, 2024, we will engage those professional recruitment services to find highly qualified candidates for the DPW leadership team of Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent.”

Steve continued.

No interim Superintendent has been appointed yet by the City of Cortland.
