City of Cortland Mayor Scott Steve announced during last night’s Common Council meeting the Director of Administration & Finance for the City of Cortland, Lisa Henty, has resigned with this current week being her last working for the City of Cortland.

Steve says Henty has accepted a Public Affairs position with Syracuse University. Steve had this to say regarding Henty during the meeting:

“Your contributions will be remembered and appreciated for sure. Professionalism, diligence, expertise, you know the high standard and we certainly want to thank you for your dedication, positivity, influence during that time. I know you’ve helped department heads as well.”

Mayor Steve said.

Lisa Henty was originally appointed to the position in the City of Cortland back in April of last year. Henty has worked to help the City of Cortland stabilize its current financial situation. Reasons on why Henty chose to leave the position for a position at Syracuse University were not revealed, but it was suggested that the workload may have been a contributing factor.

“It’s been a privilege and a pleasure.” Henty said to the Mayor and Councilors after they thanked her for her service to the City of Cortland.

An immediate replacement for the position is not planned. It was suggested that the position could be filled in 6-months. Mayor Steve noted he wanted to ensure the issues that led to Henty’s departure are addressed before filling the position.

“My intent would be to continue on getting some of this stuff cleaned up because the natural recourse of questions [are] going to be, why did miss Henty leave? What were the challenges and what would that be? Certainly we know what those challenges are there and we know what they are.” Mayor Steve said. “I think we the progress that we’ve made, and the staffing level we’ve implemented and put in place since then. I think we can continue on with that positive direction.”

During the meeting, the Common Council also voted unanimously to authorize a temporary position for the Department of Administration and Finance through the end of this year to help with the workload.
