City of Cortland Common Council Meets Tonight
Tonight at 6 p.m., the City of Cortland Common Council will meet on the third floor of City Hall in Downtown Cortland. Tonight’s meeting will include several agenda items including: applying for a grant towards a K9 replacement, increasing the occupancy tax percentage for overnight lodging at hotels, motels, and short-term rentals in the city, approving several upcoming events for the year, and more.
The Common Council looks to collect additional revenue from a city occupancy tax that was first implemented in March of last year. Under the resolution passed last year, the city has a right to implement an occupancy tax of up to 3% (the city initially issued a 1% tax in June). The occupancy tax applies to those in lodging establishments within the city for less than 30 consecutive days. The city looks to increase the tax from 1% to now 3% beginning on April 1.
