City of Cortland Common Council Meets Tomorrow Evening

The City of Cortland Common Council will meet tomorrow at 6 p.m. on the third floor of City Hall. Tomorrow’s meeting will include two proclamations: declaring March as Women’s History Month within the City, and declaring the city’s support for America250 Commemorations.

Tomorrow’s meeting includes several agenda items that look to amend the 2026 adopted budget for the city. This comes following newly appointed Director of Administration & Finance Chuck Shager’s financial report to the city last month that unveiled large budget gaps.

The Council will also discuss the possible issuance of two serial bonds to finance the cost of the bathhouse and pavilion improvement project at Yaman Beach in the amount of $4,796,965; the city was awarded over $3.8 million for the project that will be reimbursed by the state. The remaining funds will then be converted to a long-term financing plan.

The second serial bond is for additional bonds to be issued in the amount of $7.9 million to cover the costs of the downtown reconstruction and infrastructure improvement project. The city originally bonded nearly $6 million for the project, but due to rising costs, the project ended up costing more than $13.8 million, requiring the city to have to issue the $7.9 million in bonds.

However, per discussions with members of the Common Council, the bond issuances may not be authorized during Tuesday’s meeting in order to allow the Council to further discuss the city’s financial status.

The full agenda may be found online at CortlandNY.gov.
