City of Cortland Common Council Meet Tonight

The City of Cortland Common Council meeting is tonight at 6:00pm at City Hall on Court Street in the City of Cortland. Tonight’s meeting has a wide variety, some of the agenda items are listed below.





The second item on the agenda will be on the topic everyone loves to hear, Pumpkinfest. Agenda Item No. 2 will be to approve the special event and related permits for the Great Cortland Pumpkinfest. The festival will return to Courthouse Park on October 7th and 8th this year. The permits sought are a Sound Device Permit, Operating Permit Application, Street Banner Application, and Street Closure Application (the closure of Greenbush Street between Port Watson St. and Central Ave. from 9a to 6pm on Saturday and 11a-3p Sunday).


Agenda Item numbers 4 through 6 will be for authorizing supplemental agreements with Fisher Associates for Downtown Revitalization Project Design Services. The specifics on each of the three agenda items may be found below:

Agenda Item No. 4: The Common Council looks to authorize Mayor Steve to sign a Supplemental Agreement no. 3 in the amount of $39,800 to the Engineering Services Agreement with Fisher Associates for the Downtown Revitalization Projects. The funds are part of the need for additional engineering services to be provided through the Supplemental Agreement No. 3.

The additional services and expenses include the redesign work of the water and storm systems and service connections into buildings, updating the bidding documents and stormwater pollution prevention plan, alterations to the maintenance and protection of traffic plan, additional water line work on West Court and street level renderings.

Agenda Item No. 5: The council will look to authorize the mayor to sign supplemental agreement No. 4 to the engineering services agreement with Fisher Associates totaling $39,800. These additional services include: redesign of the water system due to conflict with an existing Verizon duct bank and a need for 52 completed drawings to be revised.

For Agenda Item No. 6: The Common Council will look to authorize Mayor Steve to sign Supplemental Agreement No. 5 to engineering services agreement in the amount of $38,500. The funds will include design improvements for the alleyways between 89 and 91 Main Street and between 16 and 22 Main Street, modifications to conflicts with 15 specific National Grid Facilities and design to support temporary street lighting during construction.


For the City of Cortland Police Department, the Common Council looks to authorize the creation of additional uniform Sergeants in the Police Department on Agenda Item No. 8. The department currently has an authorized force of 47 full-time officers and one part-time office assigned as the School Resource Officer.

Recently, the department has faced shortages over the past two years. Currently, there are 4 uniform Sergeant officers, the department is looking to add one more uniform Sergeant to bring the total number to 5.
