City of Cortland Approves Occupancy Tax Increase
The City of Cortland Common Council gave approval to increase the city’s occupancy tax from 1% to 3% beginning on April 1. The approval came following last night’s Common Council meeting, the vote was unanimous.
Last June, the city implemented a 1% occupancy tax for overnight lodging at hotels, motels, bed & breakfasts, short-term and vacation rentals. It also includes any other type of lodging that is less than 30 consecutive days.
Of the funds collected by the city’s occupancy tax, 4% goes towards administrative costs while the remaining 96% of the revenue is dedicated towards the promotion of tourism, cultural programs, parks and recreation, and critical infrastructure and capital improvements that support these activities.
