City of Cortland Announces New City Attorney

During last night’s Common Council meeting, the Council voted to confirm Cortland Mayor Scott Steve’s appointment of the next Corporation Council for the City of Cortland. The position has been vacant since the departure of AJ Meldrim in December.

The Corporation Council (City Attorney) is the chief legal officer for the City of Cortland and serves the mayor’s office. Mayor Steve has filed the appointment of the position with the Director of Administration and Finance and the City Clerk in accordance with the city charter and administrative code.

The Common Council voted unanimously to approve Mayor Steve’s appointment of Randall S. Lewis as the next City Attorney. Lewis’ first day will be today, March 5th with an annual salary of $130,000.

Mayor Steve expressed his excitement about Mr. Lewis being hired as the next city attorney and joked about having a lot of work waiting for him.
