Longtime Cortland City Finance Director Mack Cook is denying reports he had resigned yesterday.

WXHC News spoke with Cook this morning and he told us he had originally planned to retire on December 17, and has moved up that date, now that the city budget is passed.

Cortland Mayor Brian Tobin told WXHC he had not heard of a resignation letter from Cook.

We also asked Cook about allegations of misappropriated vacation pay he had written to himself.

Cook says he is entitled to every penny of the approximately $52,000 paid for his unused vacation. He denied any wrongdoing.

All this follows an audit of city books by the state Comptroller’s office. The audit led to some recommendations for change, such as the way the city pays employees for vacations and how it handles some contracts.

This is a developing story and will update as we get more information.
