City Crews extinguish Kitchen Fire on Port Watson

Local News

A section of Port Watson Street in Cortland was closed off last night while city crews battled a kitchen fire inside a residence on that street.

Chief Wayne Friedman and his team responded to 123 Port Watson just before 7 pm and quickly extinguished the blaze with no injuries reported.

One family was displaced and being helped at the scene by the Red Cross, Friedman said.

He also pointed out that there was extensive smoke damage throughout the structure.

Crews with Cortlandville and Homer were on stand by while city FD worked to contain the fire.

The official cause is still under investigation.
