Area fire crews responded to 24 North Church Street in Cortland yesterday, after reports of a house fire initially came in around 5:45 pm.
There were no injuries in the incident.
City FD Chief Wayne Friedman said the fire started on the outside of the structure and spread into the walls, before eventually catching onto the attic.
However, a swift deployment of first responders stopped the fire before it could engulf the attic in flames.
According to Friedman, there were no working smoke detectors inside the home at the time of the blaze.
Also helping at the scene were crews from Cortlandville and Homer Fire Departments.
The incident is now under investigation.
