City Arrests: Cortland Man Assaults Woman With Active IPO, Teenager Lies About Sexual Assault

A Cortland man was arrested on Wednesday (June 5) after Cortland Police investigated a June 1 incident at the Ramada on River Street, where 32 year old Trevor Major of East Court Street allegedly slammed a 30-year-old woman’s head into a car mirror, causing swelling and bruising.

That woman had an active order of protection against Major at the time, who was arrested Wednesday at his home and released to appear on the 19th.

Eighteen-year-old Rose Moody of Main Street Cortland was arrested last Friday (May 31) after Police discovered she fabricated a story about being sexually assaulted on May 22.

Moody originally reported to police that a man confronted her at the intersection of Main and Tompkins Street, grabbing her by the throat and forcing her to the Rural Cemetery on Tompkins Street where she said he sexually assault her behind a building.

Moody even provided investigators with a detailed description of her alleged attacker.

For the next nine days, investigators worked the case and eventually discovered that the story was made up.
