Cincinnatus Woman Accused Stealing Over $23,000 Dollars In Unentitled Benefits

A Cincinnatus woman is facing multiple charges after an investigation by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and the Cortland County Department of Social Services found she received benefits in excess of $23,000 she was not entitled to.


The investigation found that between June 2020 through December 2022, 36 year old Valkyrie Niles of Cincinnatus, had failed to provide the required information to the Department of Social Services on her household composition and income, and also provided the agency with fraudulent paperwork.

Niles was arrested on Monday, August 28th and faces charges of Welfare Fraud in the 3rd, Grand Larceny in the 3rd, and 4 counts of Offering a False Instrument for FIling in the 1st, all Felonies.

She was arraigned and later released. Niles is due back in Cortland City Court next month.
