A former student-athlete at Cortland High School was recently named SUNYAC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Paige Potter is now a senior at SUNY Cortland, where she plays goalie for the Red Dragons.
She was honored for the week ending April 4, related to her play last Wednesday (March 31) during a 6-3 upset victory over nationally ninth-ranked and previously undefeated St. John Fisher in non-conference action.
Potter tied her career high with 14 saves, including 11 in the second half and two in the closing minutes to seal the win.
Her .824 save percentage in the game lowered her overall season GAA to 9.80 and raised her save percentage to .490.
Additionally, she added two ground balls and caused one turnover.
The Cardinals were held to more than 10 goals below their season scoring average, largely thanks to Potter’s effort.
Meanwhile on Saturday (April 10), Cortland took on another team of Cardinals — this time from SUNY Plattsburgh.
Ten different Red Dragons scored goals as the nationally 18th-ranked team piled on a 22-5 victory at home.
It was their fifth straight straight win, improving their record to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Potter had seven saves and scooped up four ground balls for the Red Dragons.
