New York’s childcare workforce will get a big boost from the state as they’ll receive a $500 million investment in the 2024 budget via the Workforce Retention Grant Program.

Funding will support 150,000 child care workers. It can be used to provide bonus payments ranging from $2300 to $3000 to staff in caregiving roles, to recruit new employees, and offer sign-on and referral bonuses among other measures. Applications for the Workforce Retention Grant Program will open on July 13th.

Officials say the decision will help make sure there’s accessible and reliable child care for families while providing more equitable compensation for early educators.
