Pete Tyler exited the doors of the Ithaca Police Department as Chief for the final time yesterday (May 30) afternoon.
He’s now officially retired after 28 years with IPD and two years as chief.
Parts of Clinton Street were closed off to traffic for Chief Tyler’s final ‘walk out’ celebration. Dozens of saluting officers welcomed him down the steps of the building to the official starting point of his new journey.
Tyler has already said he plans to stay busy during his his retirement, continuing to teach and volunteering as a fireman in his town of Dryden.
An acting chief will soon be named while the city embarks on the search for a new chief of police.
