The city of Cortland is looking for a new chief of police.

F. Michael Catalano will retire this spring after more than four decades of service with local law enforcement.

His career began in 1980 as a Corrections Officer with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department.

The following year, he was appointed to patrol officer, then transferred in 1984 to the City Police Department.

From there, Catalano ambitiously worked his way through the ranks until his final promotion in August 2009.

Members of the public will get a chance to weigh in on his replacement from a list of final candidates.

WXHC has an extensive interview planned with Catalano for early March, which will air on an edition of our weekly Meet Cortland County program.
