A Chenango Forks man was arrested in Willet on Tuesday (January 28), after deputies with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office discovered the SUV he was operating while impaired was also stolen.
Officers responded in the afternoon hours to reports of a suspicious person on foot in the area of Route 26, identified at the scene as 23-year-old Jason McCrady, who had apparently run out of gas while operating a 2009 Hyundai SUV.
Investigators soon discovered that McCrady had not only been driving under the influence, but that his vehicle was reported stolen out of the State of Virginia.
McCrady was charged with two felonies for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and 1st-degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, along with a misdemeanor for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.
He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance, with a return date to Willet Town Court on February 12.
